Many job offers = many chances

If you are surfing through online job boards or German newspapers, you will easily encounter an endless list of job offers. Even official sources promise thousands of attractive jobs awaiting candidates in Germany.

Jetzt bitte lächeln!

This may sound like a mockery for an applicant, immersed up to his ears in the hunt for a job. Because, inspite of good qualifications and clear realistic ideas, he has not received more than refusals or, in many cases even more disheartening, the application was not even acknowledged. That´s when one start to doubt. Are these offers real? Do I have the wrong skills?

There are many reasons for this apparent gap between the number of job offers and concrete job committments. Often employers collect hundreds of applications in order to filter the most "cost-effective" candidate with the best qualifications out of the application pool. Always according to the motto "more is better". But, by the same token, applicants themselves proceed in the same manner, hastily sending off sloppy written applications without checking if they really match the job requirements. Furthermore, documents are not well designed and little convincing. Both ways of approach initially produce a flood of documents, e-mails and papers, that, in the end, only lead to more frustration than confidence.

So what to do? If the applicant has indeed found the dream job and wants to apply, he should do everything to become the number 1 on list of candidates of the employer. This applies to the quality of the application, as well as to taking into account all stated criteria and requirements that are specified for the job.

Our recommendation: Before submitting your application, get advice and assistance of somebody who is currently involved in job applications in Germany. Talk to him about the vacancy, your application and motivation in detail. An external assessment always helps to improve an application.

If you can't find an adequate interlocutor to share with, we recommend you to contact a professional job counsellor to perceive best your job opportunities.
