Where do you earn the most in Germany?
The Salary Report 2019 (Gehaltsreport 2019) of the job portal StepStone Anyone is an intriguing portal if you want to match your career plans with the choice of where you want to work and live. It's based on interviews of about 85,000 executives questioned between October 2017 and October 2018. Among other information it lists the top 10 cities by branches and federal states in Germany.

However, one should not forget that this is a purely statistical evaluation and does not say anything about the specific chances for a job and what will be the income potential. On the other hand, the top income cities show something more specific about the costs of living: if you can earn a lot in a certain town, it is very likely that the basic costs such as housing, restaurants, infrastructure and others are expensive, too.
So everybody has to decide for themselve:
- How important is the local infrastructure for me. (families look for schools, kindergarten, doctors ..) and what is the social and cultural life like?
- Can I practice my favorite sport? How long do I need to get to get to my work and with what kind of transport?
- Is a supermarket within walking distance?
- How far is the nearest airport and train station?
