Training "Job Interview" in Germany
A proposal for preparation, process and content
Within the entire application process the invitation to the application interview is a very positive indication. The first big hurdle is taken, because one belongs to the close circle of candidates. However, for the vast majority of applicants it is the greatest challenge in the application process. In order not to make a mistake and to reduce nervousness, many candidates are now looking for the opportunity to simulate and train the upcoming job interview with a coach.
Since we already successfully carried out such training sessions for years, we would like to briefly explain how things could be done, regardless of whether the training is carried out online via online chat like Skype, ZOOM ... or sitting together in a room opposite.
Step 1:
Get in contact with Joachim Graff or another experienced application counsellor, inform the trainer briefly about your situation as well as the next step you have in mind. Best is to ask the trainer for a suggestion how to continue with a consultation and training.
Step 2:
Prepare your documents, which you need as a basis for the training and the simulation of the application interview. In most cases this is at least:
- The original job offer you wish to apply for or have already applied for
- The corresponding cover letter
- Your current CV, which you wish to enclose or already enclosed
If you have reference letters and work certificates, it would helpful to make them available to the trainer.
Step 3:
Together with your counsellor clarify the time needed, the costs and schedule for the training times.
For the first personal interview, it's necessary to provide the documents mentioned in step 2 as .pdf or weblink.
In most cases you will discuss your documents and the job offer in the first training session. The trainer will give you first comprehensive tips and probably you will schedule the (simulated) job interview for the second training session. From experience you should provide at least 1 hour, in most cases 2 hours. In addition, you should consider that your trainer needs at least 1 hour for preparation the test interview with you, depending on the state of prepared documents (see step 2) and the entire application.
Step 4:
Now things get more serious! Simulate the complete job interview with your trainer. For that you should allow 30-60 minutes.
Whether you will have your feedback with your trainer directly after the interview or during your next session, the situation should decide.
Step 5:
The feedback about your simulated job interview usually will take place in a further training session. Also you should discuss your CV again, the application letters and your behavior during the application process.
We would like to wish you a successful application, a lot of joy and love for your profession and also success with your next career step.
